Residency Requirements for Registration

Only full-time residents of Shelton are permitted to enroll their children in Shelton Public Schools. “Full-time” is defined as typically 7 days per week, or the primary legal residence for the student(s).

The following items are required for registration IN ADDITION TO the registration packet that can be found HERE

 

Home Ownership – if you OWN a home in Shelton, the following is required for registration:

  1. Photo ID of parent/guardian (driver’s license or state-issued ID)
  2. Verification of Residence Form 
  3. Deed, mortgage statement, or current (within 1 year) property tax bill
  4. One (1) current (no older than 90 days) utility bill (electrical, landline telephone, gas, oil, cable/internet bill)
    • Unacceptable bills include cell phone bills, medical bills, tax bills, or non-utility bills

Renting – if you RENT a home in Shelton, the following is required for registration:

  1. Photo ID of parent/guardian (driver’s license or state-issued ID)
  2. Verification of Residence Form
  3. Copy of a current fully executed lease agreement for a residence in Shelton, Connecticut
    • If there is no lease, or the lease has expired, please provide one of the following showing the name of the tenant and address of the residence:
  1. One (1) current (no older than 90 days) utility bill (electrical, landline telephone, gas, oil, cable/internet bill)
    • Unacceptable bills include cell phone bills, medical bills, tax bills, or non-utility bills

Other Living Arrangements – if the student(s)/family is residing in a home owned or rented by someone else, the following is required for registration:

  1. Photo ID of parent/guardian AND property owner/renter (driver’s license or state-issued ID)
  2. Verification of Residence Form
  3. Signed and notarized Certification of Residence Form from the property owner/renter
  4. One (1) current (no older than 90 days) utility bill (electrical, landline telephone, gas, oil, cable/internet bill)
    • Unacceptable bills include cell phone bills, medical bills, tax bills, or non-utility bills
  5. An additional item that ties the family/student to the current address: State medical letter of benefits, car insurance, driver’s license/state-issued ID card, bank statement, SNAP, or other program within the State of Connecticut.
