APPLES TO APPLES CLUB--Miss Devonshuk Students in the Apples to Apples Club will have the opportunity to play the ever popular comparison card game. Requirements are a strong knowledge of adjectives and nouns, a good sense of humor, and the ability to play well with others.
ARTS & CRAFTS/BOOK WRITING--Mrs. McQueeney/ Mrs. Philie If you love to create, write, and illustrate, then the Arts and Crafts/Book Writing Club is the one for you.  After you write and illustrate your own fiction or nonfiction book, you will learn how to bind it. Also, there will be seasonal arts and crafts projects to help to brighten the seasons. This is the club for those of you who love hands-on projects.
BACKCOUNTRY CLUB--Shane Morse If you want to  learn more about nature, camping, backpacking, and the outdoors in general, this club is for you.  Students should be prepared to go outside during all types of weather.   Some days we may walk the trails, do tree identification, learn how to pack a backpack, learn new places to hike, practice knot tying for climbing, or how to read a hiking map.  If you enjoy the outdoors and want to learn more about the world around you then sign up for the Backcountry Club.
BEAUTIFICATION CLUB--Ms. Guerriero/Mrs. Zhitomi This club will beautify the SIS school grounds.  Students will participate in a variety of activities such as: raking, planting, weeding, garbage pick-up, and overall cleanup of school property.
BEST BUDDIES--Mr. DeFelice/Mrs. Goldstein If you want to make a difference in someone’s life then consider joining Best Buddies.  Best Buddies is an international organization that focuses on developing one to one friendships between students with a disability and those general education students whom you attend school with. Weekly meetings are held during flex in addition to outside activities such as bowling, miniature golf, pizza parties, and a movie day. There is an application process and a brief interview that need to be completed.
BOOK AND BREAKFAST--Mrs. Ciszkowski The Book and Breakfast Club will provide students with the opportunity to read great books and share them with friends.   Meetings will be held during flex, and students will be able to discuss their thoughts and opinions regarding the books, while enjoying breakfast.   
CARTOONING CLUB--Mr. Joyce The cartooning flex club is designed to allow students with an interest in cartooning and anima a place, time, and materials to pursue their ideas. Mr. Joyce will offer assistance to those students that request it, but he will not be teaching cartooning.
CHECKER CLUB--Mr. Tuccio Classic American Checker Club is a social gathering of beginning to advanced players to enjoy the game of checkers in a non competitive and relaxing atmosphere.  Emphasis will be on enjoying the game of checkers and each others company in a non threatening atmosphere.
CHESS CLUB--Mr. Ayer Come and play one the world’s oldest and most popular games!!  The chess club will give you the opportunity to learn about the game, challenge your peers, and participate in tournaments.  Everyone is welcome regardless of your experience
COLOR GUARD--Mrs. Zern Students learn the basics for spinning. The goals are to learn work for the Memorial Day Parade and to develop a competitive team for the winter season. Winter season starts at the end of November to early April.  There are no skills necessary to learn to spin. Equipment is provided at flex. For parade students, need only be available at flex. For the winter program students will have additional practices on Monday, Wednesday evenings and Saturdays.More information will be given to those students that are interested.  Students are not required to join the competitive team, they may only march in the Parade that is held Memorial Day Monday in May.



COMPUTER CLUB--Mrs. DiMauro/Mr. Gura Computer Club members are given the opportunity to try a variety of software programs available on the school network and to explore the Internet.  Internet games that are available to the students are mainly educational games that the district has deemed appropriate for them to have access to.  Games such as Fun Brain, Math Playground, and National Geographic Games that combine aspects of language arts, math, and problem solving skills are encouraged.  Members are also encouraged to bring any outstanding projects or assignments that they could work on. The goal is to offer entertaining and educational activities to club members in a relaxed, social setting. 2 SECTIONS
DRAMA CLUB--Mrs. Battaglia

Do you have dreams about being on the silver screen or the Broadway stage? Come and get your start with the Shelton Intermediate School Drama Club. Students in the drama club will gain experience in theater arts by learning stage direction, script reading, character analysis, and the art of improvisation. Previous theater experience is NOT required.  (they don’t need to have any experience to be part of the club…I hope this makes sense. J ) Pick up an application in Room 127 if you are interested.

 

ESPN CLUB--Mr. Napoli The ESPN Club will be sports talk from the professional ranks all the way down to your own Shelton Intermediate School sports! Each week we will be discussing articles of interest, breaking news from the sports world, and local sports news. Share with us your favorite team and we can discuss how their season is going! There will be debates based on decisions made by players, coaches and teams from your favorite sport. Make sure your sport knowledge is up when you come to the ESPN Club!!
GIRLS IN SPORTS CLUB--Mrs. Sedlock This is a club for girls who like to play, watch and talk about sports, teams they play on and learn the history of Women in Sports.
INTERNATIONAL CLUB--Ms. Hannon     This club is designed to further the interest of students in language and culture.  Possible areas of exploration include music, food, dance and art.  The club is open to current students of Spanish I and French I to enrich their skills and give them a chance to practice with other students.  The club is also open to students not taking a language currently but having a sincere interest in language and culture.  Additionally, students with a background in another language or culture are also encouraged to join and share.
JAM SESSION--Ms. Sylvester “Jam Session” is for accomplished musicians, singers , rock groups , soloists  and or performance artists who would like to perform and share their art form with others.  This club will prepare students  for our annual talent show in the spring by critiquing the performances with positive feedback.  Students should prepare a piece and be ready to perform for the first flex period!! 
JOURNALISM CLUB--Mr. O'Rourke Become a voice for Shelton Intermediate School and exercise your First Amendment rights while learning about the basics of Journalism. We are looking for future members of the media interested in writing about activities and events at SIS, including academics, entertainment, music and sports.
LITERARY MAGAZINE--Mrs. Lindsey Do you like to write poetry, short stories, narratives, or persuasive pieces?  Do you like to illustrate?  Are you a great peer editor?   If you answered "Yes!" to any of these questions, then consider lending your talents to the SIS Literary Magazine. This creative writing club will develop an on-line publication that showcases a variety of student writing.  As a club member, you will have the opportunity to help in all aspects of a literary magazine -- writing, editing, illustrating, evaluating, and publishing. Although only club members will have direct hands-on publising experience, every student at the middle school is invited to submit writing.  Entries may evolve from class assignments or may be self-motivated pieces. During FLEX time, the Literary Magazine Club students will review and select pieces for publication based on the criteria the group decides.  With the philosophy “for the students and by the students,” the literary magazine is a wonderful chance for students to express their ideas in published form and to work on a real world publication. OUTDOOR ADVENTURER'S CLUB--Mr. Wolf, Mr. Chavez The Outdoor Adventurer’s club will explore the life cycle of salmon while raising salmon eggs in the classroom.  We will also explore the grounds of SIS focusing on birds in the area and work to get population counts of the different species that live here.  The group will also explore various outdoor activities including fishing, hiking , and orienteering.  The participants in this group will participate in a field trip to release the salmon to their natural environment.  An application is required for participation.
POTTERMORE--Mrs. Marks Are you a fan of the Harry Potter book series?  Just the movies?  Want to learn more?  Want to re-experience the books, or are you a first-time reader like me?  Join Mrs. Marks as we read through the novels together and explore them deeper through the official website debuting in October, www.pottermore.com.  We will start with the Sorcerer's Stone and read and discuss weekly.  Movie screenings are an option as we finish each book.  Brilliant!
PUZZLE CLUB--Mrs. Sage This club will solve a variety of math and word puzzles such as Sudoku, word searches and crosswords.  You may choose to make a jigsaw puzzle if you prefer.
SCRAPBOOKING--Miss Purcell Have you been on a family vacation? Are you on a sports team? Do you want to keep your memories for a long time? Scrapbooking Club will help you capture and preserve memories in a crafty way! In this club, you will bring materials (pictures, business cards, movie-ticket stubs, notes, menus, etc…) that capture the specific events you would like to include in your scrapbook. You may create one scrapbook all year to capture your memories at SIS or you may create several scrapbooks for different events going on in your life! You must provide the scrapbook, and you are welcome to bring other materials needed to decorate your book. Some decorating materials will be provided.
SIS EXPLORERS--Mr. Swecewski Costa Rica ecology and conservation: We will learn about Costa Rican history, culture, ecology, geology and conservation efforts. In April, we take a trip to Costa Rica where we’ll explore rainforests, dry forests, mangroves, cloud forests, and volcanoes. We’ll get a glimpse of what it’s like to be field ecologists by going out into the field at the Tirimbina Rainforest Center and collecting and analyzing data. At Arenal Volcano National Park, we’ll see one of the world’s most active volcanoes and learn about it role in shaping the ecology and culture of the area.  Upon return you will continue to work towards earning high school science credit.
SIS MEDIA CLUB--Mr. David The activities for Media club shall include coverage of school functions, creating commercials for school activities, and assisting students and staff in camera and filming.  When ever possible, the club will also provide programming for students in homerooms that are not assigned to a club.  Lastly, we will participate in the Fox 61 Student News program.  
SOCIAL GAMESMrs. Smith/Mrs. Albright/Mrs. Fix Leave your X-box at the door and join Social Games.  All participants will be given the opportunity to learn and participate in a variety of traditional and current popular card and board games.  Students will be given the opportunity to interact with and meet a variety of students throughout SIS.  Participants will be given the opportunity to learn new and exciting games that encourage social interaction.
TEEN CORPS--Mrs. Gibbons/Mrs. Maffucci Teen Corp works to benefit the community and is open to 7th and 8th grade students.  Teen Corp can be used for service hours for scouting or religion classes. Some of the activities Teen Corp has sponsored in the past include walk-a-thons to benefit the Ronald McDonald House and the Shelton Historical Society.  We have sent cards to wounded American soldiers and have had an emergency food drive to benefit the Spoonor House, our local food bank.  We have also collected pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.  Applications can be found in the Main Office.

 VOLLEYBALL FOR BOYS--Miss Plikaitis

 

 

If you don’t play a spring sport (lacrosse, baseball, tennis, golf, track) and plan on trying out for volleyball in high school, you can learn the basics.  We’ll do drills and play games.  Parent permission and physical forms are required.
WALKING CLUB--Mrs. Rosa, Miss Pinto, Mr. Pistor, Mr. Karkut, Mrs. Hussey Students will actively participate in an exercise routine including light stretching and a brisk 1-1.5 mile walk around the beautiful SIS/SHS campus. Students must wear proper footwear (sneakers), and outer garments (jackets, gloves, etc.) appropriate for the weather.  During inclement weather, students will walk indoors.  4 sections will be created and scheduled to walk separate routes.  Parental Permission Slip Required
YEARBOOK--Mrs. Donofrio This club provide the student with the opportunity to help create the  yearbook. Students will use concepts of yearbook involving layout and design, copywriting and photography to produce the school yearbook. They  must have a well-developed sense of responsibility and meet deadlines. This club has limited enrollment; consideration for enrollment is based upon completion of the yearbook application and recommendations of the student's teachers.
YOGA CLUB--Miss Lawler Yoga is a physical and mental discipline that offers many health benefits through a series of stretches and poses. Through yoga we can learn relaxation techniques, release anxieties, improve balance, concentration, and flexibility, and enhance core muscles.  What you need: comfortable pants (preferably yoga pants), a comfortable shirt, and socks
ZUMBA CLUB--Mrs. Weir, Ms. Stowe Come and join the latest craze of dance, exercise, and fun!  Members will learn hip, Latin-inspired dance moves set to a variety of musical styles, including reggaeton, salsa, merengue, and much more!  Participants must bring gym/dance shoes!  Enthusiasm and energy is a must!  Parental permission is required.
